Ferroelectric polymers, such as poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is attractive for many applications. There were at least three crystallines including α, β, and γ form in PVDF, which could transform from one to the other under certain conditions. Among the three crystalline forms, α crystal is primarily produced from the melt. β and γ form have polar behavior which are important with intrinsic ferroelectric properties. Therefore, it is critical to manipulate the types of PVDF crystal phase. We investigated the control of pressure driven polymorphic transition of PVDF by using micro/nanoimprint. We observed that the pressure applied on the selective areas of PDMS mold transferred α crystal structure into γ in certain temperature, giving rise to the detection of patterned remanent polarization at imprinted regions. The samples were characterized by FTIR, EFM, SEM, displacement-electric field hysteresis loop and capacitance-voltage measurement. |
