A monomer, 3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene methanol [EDTM] was synthesized through a six-step process which was well known in the literature. EDTMSHA monomer was design from the modification of EDTM with thioglycolic acid and bromopropene. According to the cyclic voltammetry result, electrochemical polymerization of the EDTMSHA monomer, along with the accessibility of the redox sites of the monomer, could be achieved. The EDTMSHA monomer revealed an oxidation peak at 0.55 V and a reduction peak at 0.45 V. Upon continuous cycles, there was a gradual increase in the current intensity, denoting the continuous film formation. An electropolymerization response was observed showing a color change from no color to yellow on the ITO electrode (oxidized state) during the sweep process. |
