Recently, development of polymer materials with biodegradable characteristics is important due to increased demand for eco-friendly materials and sustainable technologies. In this study, we prepared packaging materials with anti-biofouling and antibacterial properties by using natural wax and essential oil based on polylactic acid and starch, which is biopolymer-based materials. Synergy effects were expressed by applying wax lipid nanocarriers to maintain the antibacterial effects of existing essential oils and increase thermal stability. Additionally, antibacterial test using Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis showed promising antibacterial activity of more than 90%, respectively, as well as the other pollution (e.g., dust, dirt, soot, soil) control performance. We anticipate that this research will have many practical applications in the field of polymer-based biodegradable packaging materials having cross-contamination prevention characteristics. |
