Ternary composites of SnO2 with RGO and PEDOT:PSS for high lithium storage ability |

We propose ternary composites of SnO2 with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). In the composites ~3 nm SnO2 particles are uniformly distributed over RGO nanosheets and covered with PEDOT:PSS. RGO increases conductivity and alleviate volume change of SnO2. Conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS also increases the conductivity of SnO2. Therefore, in the ternary composites conductivity of SnO2 increased greatly and its volume change was minimized. As a result, the ternary composites show higher capacity than RGO/SnO2 binary composites. The capacity of the ternary composites decrease with the increasing amount of PEDOT:PSS. Composite with 5 wt% PEDOT:PSS shows capacity of 980 mAh/g (1185 mAh/g with respect to SnO2) and Coulombic efficiency >99% after 160 cycles operated at 80 mA/g. High capacity was attributed to the small diffusion path of Li+, minimization of volume change and increase in conductivity offered by RGO and PEDOT:PSS. |
