In polymer nanocomposites, the improvement in mechanical properties is generally related to the degree of delamination and dispersion of the clay in the polymer matrix. To attain good dispersibility of the nanoclay, the clay surface was often modified with an organic surfactant to improve the interactions between the clay particles and the polymer. The dispersion state of nanoparticle was identified by FE-SEM image, 2D-WAXD image, and TEM image. The thermal properties of nanocomposites were measured by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) in nitrogen atmosphere. The rheological properties of nylon 6 nanocomposite were measured by Advanced Rheometric Expansion System (ARES). Parallel plate geometry was adopted whose diameter and gap were 25 and 1.0 mm, respectively. The nanocomposites present non-Newtonian flow behavior over the frequency range examined, which is more noticeable at higher clay content. |
