Characterization and Rheological Properties of the PP/Corn Starch composites |

Polyprophylene (PP)/corn starch (CS) composites were prepared by adding a moderate amount of the modified montmorillonite (20A). The microstructure of PP/CS composites containing 20A were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The X-ray pattern shows clearly that the interlayer spacing decreases. The decrease in the interlayer spacing is an indication of intercalation. The dark lines of the composite observed by (TEM) are the clay layers. Each layer of clay is disordered and dispersed homogeneously in the composite. Oscillatory measurements were used to observe the rheological properties of PP/CS composites. The measured temperature and strain were 200 oC and 5%, respectively. The complex viscosities The complex viscosities of the composites showed a monotonic increase at all frequency ranges with increasing CS concentration. |
