NatureWorks Biopolymer made by NatureWorks LLC in the U.S. is the world's first commercially viable plastic made from an annually renewable resource (sugar derived from plants). The company sells its products globally and has a significant presence in the AisaPacific region, including in Korea. Customers in Korea currently include SKC, Toray Saehan, Sewoon Medical/SK Networks, KP Tech, Channel Database Marketing, as well as several others. Despite NatureWorks's recent commercial success, many challenges remain in the merging field of bio-based, sustainable plastics in general that require ongoing engagement with a vast array of local stakeholders, including government ministries, certification boards, research/academic institutions, waste management/recycling firms, brand owners, as well as consumer groups. Challenges remain to improve the performance attributes of NatureWorks Biopolymer, and many companies around the world are beginning to see success in this regard. It is hoped that continued successes will lead to the widespread adoption of NatureWorks Biopolymer blends in durable application segments like autos, consumer electronics and toys." |
