A novel ionic polymer-graphene composite (IPGC) actuator with graphene bucky paper electrodes was developed for the realization of a durable and cost-effective actuator. The IPGC actuator that is activated at higher potentials and in the open air condition showed no straightening back phenomenon and very long actuation time in comparison with conventional IPMC actuators using platinum electrodes. These results are achieved from the fact that water molecules in IPGC actuator do not dry out in virtue of very smooth surface morphology, high hydrophobicity and low water permeation through graphene bucky paper electrode. Compared to the conventional IPMC actuator, after fully drying process, tip displacement of the IPGC actuator was maintained without decrement during the harmonic responses, because graphene bucky paper electrodes have high hydrophobicity and low water permeation. |
