Plant secondary metabolites can be utilized in various kinds of industry, but their low extraction yields from natural resources limited the sufficient supply to the market. Therefore, diverse production methods for stable supply of useful plant secondary metabolites have been suggested including chemical synthesis. Among them, biosynthetic method using microbial host can produce them sustainably. In this study, Escherichia coli was used as a host for heterologous production of plant secondary metabolites. The phenylpropanoid and flavonoid pathway originated from plant were introduced into E. coli and various intermediate compounds could be produced.
