Carbon fibers as reinforcement are now available in various forms, such as chopped fiber, long and continuous tows, yarns, propregs, woven, and nonwoven fabrics. In this study, carbon fiber nonwoven prepared by wet-laid process was used as the main reinforcement material. It has the advantage that the wet-laid process can be used to form a web from all fibers which can be dispersed in water. Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were introduced into carbon fiber wet-laid composites as functional nano-fillers to fabricate multifuntional composites with the improved mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. We prepared the various types of CNTs reinforced carbon fiber wet-laid composites, and the morphology, mechanical and electrical properties of the composites were estimated. In case of 3-dimensionally distributed CNTs within the matrix of the composites, electrical conductivity remarkably increased while maintaining the mechanical properties. |
