PPS(poly(p-phenylene sulfide)) is a semicrystalline, engineering polymer with good mechanical and thermal properties. The Avrami exponent of PPS is known to be ca. 3, which means crystals grow as 3-dimensional spherulites. But the crystallization mechanism of PPS could be changed by blending with LCP, because LCP acts as a nucleating agent. Nonisothermal crystallization kinetics has been theoretically approached by Ozawa. However, Ozawa’s theory has several limits, one of which is that it compares the crystallization process of different cooling rates at the same temperature which are at different stages of the crystallization. In this study, we apply a new analysis method for the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PPS and its LCP blends to reveal their structural development with it. |
