The soluble polynorbornenes with pendant triarylamine side groups were efficiently produced by the Pd(II)-catalyzed vinyl addition polymerization of norbornene monomers in combination with 1-octene chain transfer agent. The polymers show not only high thermal stability (Td5 > 400oC) but also high glass transition temperature (Tg > 268oC). When being incorporated into the HTL of tris(8-hydroxyquinolinolato)aluminum (Alq3)-based devices through solution process, all the devices emitted the typical green light with an emission maximum ofλem of 528 nm, indicating that the polymers function properly as HTLs for the green emission of Alq3. Particularly, the device based on the polynorbornene bearing N,N-bis(naphthalene-1-yl)-N,N-bis(phenyl)-benzidine (NPB) side groups exhibits the excellent performances in terms of luminance, current density, and external quantum efficiency. Details of synthesis, characterization, and hole-transporting properties of polymers will be discussed. |
