Gas bubbling effect on the dye adsorption and performance of dye-sensitized solar cells |

Long time soaking for dye adsorption on metal oxide surface is one of the main obstacles for commercialization of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Here we reports easy, effective and low cost dye adsorption method, gas bubbling soaking (GBS) that significantly shortened adsorption time for metal-based as well as organic dyes, increasing the amount of dye molecules adsorbed at the same time. The performance of DSCs with mesoporous titania (TiO2) electrode fabricated through GBS was compared to those fabricated through overnight soaking (OS). Open circuit voltage and current density of DSCs increased when using GBS process than those using conventional OS, which was associated with better surface coverage of dye molecules on TiO2 film and thereby decreased back reaction of electrons injected. Electrochemical and optical measurements support it well. |
