Physical Properties of Compounded Natural Rubber Blends with a Variety of Cure States by DSC Cure Enthalpy |

Virgin natural rubber(NR)/recycled NR and NR/styrene butadiene rubber(SBR) with variety of cure states were prepared and investigated with respect to swelling and crosslink density as well as physical properties. To support DSC enthalpy measurement, the state of cure were also followed and measured by chemical means, or more precisely by measuring crosslink density of rubber using an equilibrium swelling method. A plot of crosslink density vs. curing time reveals that extent of cure, the swell index decreased while volume fraction and crosslink density increased. Modulus and hardness increased while elongation at break and tensile strength decreases with the increase of cure extent. |
