The excess Gibbs free energies of mixing, GE, for butyl acetate (A) + benzene or + toluene or + cyclohexane (B) at 308.15 K have been obtained using Barker’s method from the vapor pressure data measured by static method. The GE values for butyl acetate + toluene system are negative, while for system containing benzene and cyclohexane are positive. The GE values for butyl acetate + benzene or toluene system have been analyzed in terms of an Ideal Associated Model (Hepler & Fenby, J Chem Thermodyn 6, 1974, 185-9) of non-electrolyte solutions. This model approach shows the presence of AB and A2B molecular species in these systems. The equilibrium constants, KAB and KA2B, for the reactions A+B↔AB and 2A+B↔A2B along with the enthalpy of formation, ΔHAB and ΔHA2B of the molecular species AB and A2B have also been calculated. Using these values, values of excess enthalpy of mixing, HE were calculated and found to compare well with the experimental HE values. |
