The synthesis of functionalized carbon nanotubes is an important topic because such materials have potential applications in biology and materials science. Cyclodextrin has been greatly developed owing to CDs’ unique character which can form inclusion complex with other organic compounds. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNT) functionalized with adamantyl groups were prepared via chemical modification of carboxyl groups introduced on the carbon nanotube surface. Copolymers were prepared from monovinyl beta-CD and methyl methacrylate by radical polymerization. Adamantly groups are known to be included and held strongly in beta-CD. Therefore, they were constructed by the formation of inclusion complexes between functionalized CNT and copolymer. They were analyzed by means of NMR spectroscopy, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), IR spectra, UV-vis transmission spectra, X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Thermogravity analysis(TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC). |
