제목 A study on butane working capacity of pitch derived-activated carbons
초록 In this study, activated carbon pellets (AC) were prepared using various conditions for gasoline vapor emission control. The textural properties of the AC were investigated by N2/77K adsorption isotherms. The hardness of the AC was determined according to ASTM D3802. The butane working capacity (BWC) was determined according to ASTM D5228. As a result, the specific surface area (SSA) and pore volume (PV) of the AC were determined to be 650-2600m2/g and 0.27-1.40cm3/g, respectively. As the activation time increased, the butane activity (BA) and retentivity (BR) of the AC increased, and were observed to be from 10.5 to 67.1% and from 6.7 to 10.9%, respectively. This indicates that BA and BR could be a function not only of the SSA or PV, but also of the mesopore volume fraction in the range of 2.8–3.8 nm and 5.5-6.5 nm of adsorbents, respectively. The AC exhibit enhanced BWC compared to commercial AC with the high performance of BWC due to its pore structure having a high mesopore ratio.
