Exposure to toxic chemical warfare (CW) agents is a potential hazard to the armed forces and to civilian populations. Recently, nerve agents (a series of CWA) such as VX and GD are a matter of concern with their toxicity and the employment of VX at an assassination of a key figure. When the nerve agents are released into environmental, they must be promptly eliminated because they are extremely toxic, can cause death within a few minutes after exposure, act through direct skin contact as well as inhalation, and persist in the environment for several weeks after release. We conducted a series of decontamination experiments for GD and VX with Zr-series Metal-Organic Frameworks at room temperature. From the experimental results, we found the Zr-series MOFs were very active for decontamination reaction of GD and VX at room temperature. |
