The relationship between the viscoelastic properties of an overlayer placed at the electrode interface of a quartz crystal resonator and its resonant characteristic is developed to compute the viscoelastic properties from the experimentally measured resonant characteristic, and it is utilized in the measurements of viscosity and elastic shear modulus of a polyethylene overlayer during its solidification. The measurements are compared with the viscoelasticity of melt polyethylene measured using a rheometer at low strain rates. It is found that those of this study are reasonable to indicate the utilization of the resonator useful in the determination of rheological property of polymer materials. |
