In this work, the effect of electroless nickel (Ni) plating on electrochemical properties of carbon fibers was investigated. The poly(amide imide) (PAI) fibers were prepared by electrospinning method from 25 wt.% PAI in dimethylformamide (DMF) solution. Surface properties of the Ni-CFs were measured in terms of X-ray diffraction spectrometry (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS). The relationship between the addition of Ni and the electrical conductivity of the Ni-CFs were also discussed. The experimental results indicated that the electrical conductivity of the Ni-CFs was increased with increasing the Ni content due to the formation of conductive network. It was also found that the Ni plating led to an improvement of thermal stability of the CFs, mainly due to the increase of deposited Ni-P alloys. |
