Hydrogen is of key importance to various industrial applications, including fuel cells and in the aerospace and automotive industries. Since the hydrogen gas is odorless, colorless, and very flammable, highly sensitive hydrogen surveillance sensor systems having uniformity through repetitive sensing are needed. We fabricated multidimensional palladium decorated 3-carboxylate polypyrrole nanoparticles (M_PdCPPy) to detect hydrogen gas. The M_PdCPPys are produced by means of facile alkyl functionalization and chemical reduction of pristine 3-carboxylate polypyrrole nanoparticle-contained palladium precursor solution. The resulting M_PdCPPy based sensor electrode exhibits ultrahigh sensitivity (0.1 ppm) and stability toward hydrogen gas due to the porous morphology of palladium sensing layer. |
