Rubbery polymer membranes, especially poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS) membraens, are used for selective separation of hydrocarbon vapors from their mixtures. The composite membranes were prepared by coating silica-filled PDMS solution on polysulfone(PSf) support. We focused on improving performance and mechanical properties of membranes by filling silica particles into PDMS matrix. With silane treatment, silica particles were dispersed uniformly in PDMS matrix and composite membranes were prepared successfully. Surface and cross-sectional morphology of composite membranes was characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM). The performance test of permeability and selectivity is carried out by varying incorporated silica contents. The results indicated better performance due to increase of surface area and roughness of the membranes. |
