A membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) with low contact resistance for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) |
초록 |
Hydrocarbon membranes have been considered as potential proton exchange membranes for DMFC owing to low production cost, high proton conductivity, and low methanol permeability. Nafion ionomer has been usually used as a catalyst binder to transport protons formed by catalytic reaction and to hold carbon-supported catalyst particles independent of membranes. However, incompatibility between hydrocarbon membranes and Nafion ionomer may cause severe interfacial problems such as high contact resistance, leading to low performances in fuel cell operation. A delamination of catalyst layers occurs even after a short-term fuel cell operation. In this study, the direct fluorination of membranes was tried to reduce the contact resistance with catalyst layers containing Nafion ionomers. The effect of fluorination on membrane performances was systematically investigated with polymer nanocomposite membranes having excellent proton conductivity and methanol barrier property. |
