High performance Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Effectiveness of graphene/polystyrene nanocomposites prepared through wet mixing and coagulation methods |

EMI Shielding materials are getting increasing attention due to surge in utilization of electronic devices. Here, we report the synthesis of graphene based polystyrene (PS) composites by two approaches. First, we used the aqueous wet mixing of PS/graphene oxide (GO) and insitu reduced the dispersion by Hydroiodic acid (HI) followed by filtration and compaction of powder in pellet form. In another approach, we utilized the NMP as solvent for PS and GO and insitu reduced the mixed solution by HI acid followed by coagulation in methanol. The powder was filtered and compacted for measuring the electromagnetic properties. The coagulated composites show excellent EMI shielding performance at 20GHz approaching to 34 dB, whereas the wet mixing composite show 26 dB at similar frequency and thickness. The high EMI shielding performance of coagulated composite is ascribed to better homogeneity of filler material in the composite which resulted in improved electrical conductivity. |
