Pumping Schedule Optimization for Shale Gas Hyraulic Fracturing |

Hydraulic fracturing and vertical drilling technology have made shale gas production feasible. In this study, hydraulic fracturing process is modeled to describe fracture growth, proppant transport and settling. Proppant uniformity along with fracture geometry is a key issue to make gas productivity higher. For the proppant uniformity, a novel pumping schedule is introduced using linear combinations of the generated spatial concentration profiles, so that the pumping of the proppant can meet a practically-feasible target concentration profile. Modeling the proposed pumping schedule and comparison with the method that is popular in petroleum engineering showed that proposed schedule produces more uniform proppant bank. |
