Inverse suspension polymerization, consisting of a water-in-oil system, has been known as an effective method for producing polymer microparticles. Water soluble monomers and initiator are dispersed in organic phase as liquid droplets where polymerization of the monomer occurs. This process produces microspheres of the polymers. In this study, spherical polymer particles were synthesized by inverse suspension polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde. Optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of the polymer particles revealed that the particles have excellent spherical shape and uniform size. These polymer particles are expected to find many application such as catalysts, sensors, selective separation. |
