Preparation of plate-like nano α-Al2O3 |

Alumina has been used in many applications both as structure and functional materials due to their hardness, mechanical strength, and low cost. Recent work demonstrated that nano-size plate-like grains could increase fracture toughness more significantly than the ball-like grains. The object of this study is to prepare the plate-like nano α-Al2O3 by sol-gel or microwave synthesis method. The crystalline structures of alumina particles were characterized by XRD.The particle size and morphology were observed by SEM and TEM. It was found that sol-gel process is useful for making nano alumina particles, while microwave synthesis is helpful to obtain the dispersed plate-like nano alpha alumina particles. |
