Pearl pigments are widely used in industry, especially in automotive coatings, decorative coatings, plastic, paints, printing inks and cosmetic formulations. Today the commercially most important pearlescent pigments are mica particles coated metal-oxide, for example TiO2/mica. The rutile-coated mica exhibits markedly enhanced light stability as compared with anatase-coated mica pigment products. The objective of present study is the crystal structure of TiO2 thin film in the TiO2-mica system of undoped and doped metal ions (Sn4+, Al3+, Mn2+, Cu2+, Zn2+). The crystalline phase of the particles was examined by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, and the morphology of the particles was observed using a scanning electron microscope(SEM). Especially Sn4+ has an effect on the anatase-to-rutile transformation of TiO2 thin films. |
