Poly (ehtylene terephthalate) (PET) and PET/A10-MMT nanocomposites containing various Dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate Sodium salt,98%(DMSi) contents (1,2,3 mole %) (PETi and PETNi respectively) were prepared by in-situ polymerization and were investigated for morphologies, thermal properties and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics. H-NMR spectroscopy was used to confirm the presence of ionic group in PET matrix. It was confirmed by WAXD and TEM micrograph that the dispersion of clay was efficiently dispersed in PET ionomer. Thermal properties and nonisothermal crystallization of PETi and PETNi were measured by DSC. The molecular weight of PET ionomer and PETNi decreased consistently with increasing ionic content. Moreover, PETi and PETNi with increasing ionic group significantly reduced the fusion enthalpy and increased the degree of supercooling, indicating ionic group not only affects the crystallization behavior of PET but also played a role as a retardant agent. |
