Monopoly(ethylene glycol)-deoxycholic acids (mPEG-DC) aqueous solutions formed micelles above a certain concentrations. As the molecular weight of mPEG increased from 350 to 550, and to 750, the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) increased from 35 oC, 60 oC, and 75 oC. However, the critical micelle concentration of the three polymers was not much different and was in a range of 0.01 ~ 0.1 wt %. The micelle formation was confirmed by the dye solubilization method, 1H-NMR spectra in D2O/CDCl3, the transmission electron microscope, and dynamic light scattering. The transition was endothermic and the enthalpy change increase as the polymer concentration increased, suggesting that the transition is driven by entropy. In this poster, the mechanism of the phase transition will be discussed and the application of the thermosensitive micelles as a paclitaxel delivery system will be presented. |
