제목 Synthesis and Nanostructure of Self-Assembled Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals
초록

We have synthesized fan-shaped monodendrons and second-generation dendrimers with hydrophobic fluorinated tail and hydrophilic core. A systematic approach to the synthesis of fan-shaped monodeneron and dendrimer based on a alkoxybenzene unit relies on the ability to prepare semifluorinated alkyl bromides with the 4/8 (m/n) ratio (m/n) of their perhydrogenated [(CH2)m] to perfluorinated [F(CF2)n] segments. These cylinder or rod-like supramolecules form a thermotropic hexagonal columnar liquid crystalline phase. The fluorination of these tapered building blocks enhances dramatically their self-assembly ability. The perfluorinated segments of the building blocks are microsegregated from the perhydrogenated and aromatic segments of the column.
The ordered microstructure of the molecule was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and electron diffraction (ED) pattern show that the molecules self-organize to the hexagonal columnar mesophase.
