Folding and stretching will be the key characteristics in the next-generation electronic devices, including elastic displays, e-skins, and in highly flexible devices. This talk will present recent developments of stretchable electrodes and circuits based on polymer-metal composite materials. In order to endow the superior stretchability, we utilized one-dimensional structure such as electrospun fiber composites or stripe-like patterned composites. Rubber/metal nanoparticle composite fibers with a network of the metal nanoparticles inside the elastic fibers showed excellent conductivity at high strain (100%). The stable conductivity at high strains is critical to stretchable electrodes and circuits, while sensitive response to strains is useful to strain sensors for E-skin studies. This talk presents the patterning strategies of the conductive composites and their use for conductive circuits and strain sensors. |
