Polydiacetylene supramolecules are unique in changing color from blue to red upon specific binding events, caused by shortening of delocalization length of π-electrons along diacetylene backbones. We have been successful in immobilization of the vesicles on solid substrate surfaces, in inclusion of them within polymeric matrices, and in fabrication of chemical-sensing microarrays on surfaces by using a conventional ink-jet spotter. We will discuss engineering strategies for the sensor development of these polydiacetylene supramolecular systems capable of label-free detection of targets having chemical and/or biological significance. |
