The applications of dielectric materials in electric components are usually required to afford large energy density with a high breakdown strength. In order to obtain the important dielectric characteristics, we developed block copolymer-shielded BT nanoparticles composited in polystyrene matrix, showing high dielectric permittivity and dielectric strength with a low leakage current. The 5~7 nm thick core-shell particle structure forming the stable polymer layer on BT nanoparticles prevented close connections between the charged interfaces of the BT particles, which become a route of electric leakage and dielectric breakdown. Thus, the resulting composite films containing core-shell particles well meet the universally desirable properties of dielectric materials for use in energy storage devices—high permittivity and large dielectric strength with low leakage current resulting in a large energy density. |
