A pair of polarizer plays an indispensible role in activating image display in liquid crystal displays (LCD), thus constituting a crucial key component for TFT-LCD. Here the general properties of an iodine-based polarizer for TFT-LCDs are briefly introduced including its major requirements not only for high quality image display such as high transmittance and contrast ratio (CR), but also for high durability including dimensional stability for panel flatness. To be more specific, we present a few physical/mathematical models to address a few specific physical/chemical phenomena associated with an iodine-doped polarizer. |
