Three-dimensional Morphological Study and Correlated Electrical Performance of Vertically Segregated Photovoltaic Layer |

In bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices (OPV), electrical performance critically depends on the phase separation and the distribution of the electron donor and acceptor material in the photoactive layer. In this work, we comprehensively analyzed P3HT:PCBM photoactive layers processed with and without an additive which induces vertical segregation of P3HT nanocrystals in the blend film. The vertical distribution of P3HT nanocrystals in the films was characterized by using various techniques including electron tomography (3D TEM) and dynamic secondary ion mass spectroscopy (DSIMS). The electrical performances of the vertically segregated blend film was investigated and correlated with the compositional gradient of P3HT and PCBM phases. |
