We have systematically investigated charge transport behaviors of various π-conjugated semiconducting films in organic electronics, such as field-effect transistors and photovoltaics, using structural visualization tools, specifically, grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. It was found that (i) film morphologies of semiconductors, especially the ordered domain sizes, which affect charge injection and carrier transport; (ii) interfacial or bulk traps, which attenuate the gate field-effect and reduce the mobility; (3) energetic disorder induced by the polar functional moieties of the gate dielectric significantly affect the mobility. |
