제목 Gel retardation of PVA solution containing Erythromycin
초록 PVA is widely utilized in biomedical field as biocompatibility hydrogels. The hydrogel could be prepared by freezing-thawing or irradiation cross-linking. In spite of many research, studies for gel retardation of PVA solution containing crystallinity drug were not developed. In this study, we carried out gel retardation of PVA solution containing crystallinity drug for effective drug delivery system.
Erythromycin (EM) used as a model drug has high crystalline. To examine PVA gel retardation, EM, plasticizers and surfactants added and dispersed in PVA solution. followed by stabilization at room temperature for 24h. Crystallinity of this solution was analyzed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Viscosity was also measured at severe conditions of freezing-thawing to examine gelation caused by thermal variation.
PVA solution in the presence of EM changed quickly from sol to gel at freezing-thawing of only one cycle. This indicate that EM in PVA solution act as seed to form gel. Gel retardation of PVA solution was observed by the addition of additives. In addition, the crystallinity of PVA solution including EM was decreased by the addition of additives.
In conclusion, we can retard the gelation of PVA solution with EM according to the addition of additives.
