Fabrication of ZnO/polystyrene hybrid hollow spheres by Pickering emulsion polymerization |

A simple and effective method was studied for the fabrication of organicinorganic hybrid hollow spheres by a Pickering emulsion polymerization method. ZnO nanoparticles were used to form the colloidosomes that served as the polymerization vessels, where both styrene monomer and crosslink agent were polymerized together. Fourier transform infrared spectra and field emission scanning electron microscope images showed the existence of ZnO and polystyrene in the organicinorganic hybrid hollow spheres. The hollow structure and ZnO nanoparticles absorbed on the surface were also observed by transmission electron microscopy. The effect of several other parameters on the properties of the organic-inorganic hybrid hollow spheres was also investigated. |
