Biological fouling under marine machinery causes several problems such as loss of energetic efficiency and performance. For decades, intensive researches have been researched to prevent adsorption of marine organisms. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogel has been known as a typical good antifouling agent, but pure PEG hydrogel is too weak to be utilized on actual materials. To solve this problem, we composed PDMS with PEG. PDMS has been known as material having not only good mechanical strength but also antifouling property. We first prepared PEG hydrogel film having penetrating pores by a Directional Melting Crystallization (DMC) method. After that we infiltrated PDMS into the porous PEG hydrogel. The structure of composite was confirmed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Moreover, PEG-PDMS composites indicate improved mechanical strength in comparison to pure PEG film. |
