Optimal ion flux in various electrolytes and its implication for dye-sensitized solar cells |

Recently, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with low production cost and high energy-conversion efficiency have drawn much attention. For their practical application, the DSSCs requires to ensure long-term stability. To satisfy the demand, solid or quasi-solid electrolytes being more stable than a volatile liquid electrolyte have been utilized. However, the efficiency of DSSCs containing non-volatile electrolytes was restricted due to their low diffusion coefficient of redox species. Therefore, in order to increase the ionic diffusion coefficient and consequently improve the performance of the DSSCs, it is needed to study the effect of the ion flux in various electrolytes on the efficiency of DSSCs. Through controlling the flux of ions in each electrolyte, it was confirmed that the performance of the DSSCs was largely affected by ion flux and their optimum flux was determined by the properties of media. |
