Molecular consideration on the LCST behavior of polar polymer solutions |
초록 |
Highly polar polymers such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) are being widely used in the high-performance and electronic industries. However, enthalpic effects on the physical properties of such polar polymer solutions are still controversial. It has a practical importance to understand the relation between physical interactions and solution properties of polar polymers because intermolecular interactions dominant the polymer characteristics. The physical properties of PAN and cyano group substituted PPTA (CY-PPTA) solutions in polar organic solvents were investigated. With increasing temperature, the intrinsic viscosity of dilute solutions was decreased but the dynamic viscosity of concentrated solutions was increased as temperature increases in both solutions. PAN solutions became more heterogeneous with increasing temperature. This indicated that high polarity of nitrile groups causes enthalpy-driven polymer aggregation at higher temperature. |
