Solid polymer electrolytes for lithium batteries have many advantages over liquid electrolytes, such as mechanical property, processing flexibility, and safety. However, their conductivity at room temperature is usually too low to applicable. In this work, the polymeric electrolyte composites (PECs) based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and layered silicate fillers were prepared to study the filler effects on the mechanical strength and electrochemical properties. The effect of silicate fillers on the tensile strength for polymer electrolyte film was discussed for analyzing the mechanical properties. As a result, the interlayer spacing of the layered silicates had been changed, and thus a part of cations entered the interlayer of silicates. Furthermore, the ionic conductivity was enhanced with increasing filler contents because of the decreased crystallinity of PEO. |
