To align the organic semiconducting material via solution process, we fabricated the patterned substrate with selective wettability, i.e. solvophobic and solvophilic surfaces. The patterned substrates were treated with solvophobic self-assembled monolayers and then were selectively exposed by ultraviolet light to increase wettability of organic solvents. Using the solution dropping method on the inclined substrate, 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS_PEN) deposits were defined and well aligned over centimeter-scale area without any remains for various solvents (chloroform, toluene, chlorobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, and 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene). Especially, we systematically investigated the crystalline microstructure and surface morphology of the TIPS_PEN deposit. By controlling solvent evaporation rate, the electrical performances of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on the TIPS_PEN deposits could be optimized. |
