We synthesized mesoporous silica monoliths through a solvent evaporation process using various surfactants in non-aqueous solvent (DMAc). Different amount of rare-earth metal oxide (Eu, Tb, Tm oxide) in framework were formed via one-step synthetic route based on the preparation method of a silica monolith. Optical properties of rare-earth metal oxide containing mesoporous silica monoliths were investigated by UV irradation and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Using the exitation wavelength 254 nm, doped mesoporous silica monoliths emitted red, green and blue for Eu, Tb and Tm oxides, respectively. Rare-earth metal ion containing mesoporous silica monoliths showed enhanced PL intensity compared to that of the bulk rare-earth metal oxide. The samples may have potential applications in the area of UV sensor, separation, adsorption, catalysis and so on. |
