In this study, various recycling techniques were studied to obtain recycled carbon fibers (rCF) for applying to the polymer-matrix composites. Three kinds of recycling techniques, such as mechanical grinding method, pyrolysis in the steam method, and supercritical solvent method. All rCF-reinforced polypropylene composites were prepared to compare the mechanical properties of the composites according to the recycling methods. The rCF/PP composites exhibited 1.5 times higher mechanical strength than as-received CF/PP composites. This result is probably due to the surface oxidation effects during the recycling processes, resulting in the enhancement of interfacial forces between the rCF and the matrix. |
