Diblock copolymers composed of two different polymers spontaneously assemble into periodic nanostructures, of which the size and morphology can be controlled by the molecular weight and composition of copolymers. In thin films of copolymers, perpendicular nanostructures to the substrate can be obtained by neutralizing the surface of the substrate. Such nanostructures can be utilized as guiding templates to arrange nanomaterials such as nanoparticles and nanorods. In this study, perpendicular nanostructures of PS-b-PMMA diblock copolymer were fabricated on solid substrates. After the PMMA block was selectively removed from the polymer film by the dry etching process of oxygen plasma, Au nanorods were introduced into the remaining PS nanostructures by spin-coating. They were guided along the nanostructures, leading the change of plasmonic properties from randomly oriented Au nanorods. |
