We successfully synthesized raspberry-like gold nanoparticles (Au RLNPs) in high yield through the reduction of HAuCl4 by Brij35 surfactant in basic condition. The synthesized Au RLNPs possess high surface area, which is possibly useful structural factor for the applications. The unique, highly-red shifted surface plasmon resonances (SPRs) of Au RLNPs originate from the rough, raspberry-like surface of Au RLNPs. The size of Au RLNPs can be controlled by varying the amount of NaOH and HAuCl4. The generated Au RLNPs are stable in basic or neutral conditions, however show the structural changes in acidic conditions. The Au RLNP showed high catalytic activities in the reduction of 4-aminophenol. The improved catalytic activities compared other shaped Au nanoparticles are mainly due to the high surface area and stability in a basic condition. In addition, we also deposited Au RLNP on the silica materials, which could be more easily recovered and reused in the repeated catalytic reactions. |
