Preparation of Metal Stents with Silver Particles incorporated in Polymeric membrane and Their Application to Biliary obstruction |

Self-expanding bare metal stents (SEBMS) are being commonly used to prevent biliary tract obstruction. For example, ePTFE, polyurethane, and silicone in order to prevent tumor ingrowth through the wire mesh. One of main issues in clinical use of biliary stent is a biofilm formation on the surface of polymeric membranes which lead to stent obstruction. This study was to prepare Ag-incorporated membrane for covering biliary stent and evaluate the application for biliary stent to prevent the formation of biofilm. As a result of antimicrobial test, it was found that antimicrobial effect was significantly decreased on control, but the membrane with Ag-particles continuously maintained its antimicrobial effect even accelerated aging test after 97days at 60 celcius degrees. It was showed that the stent covered with silicone membrane including Ag-particles had a potential to prohibit the formation of biofilm on the surface of membrane from sludge and improve patency in a long term. |
