Compatibilizers for polymer solar cells (PSCs), in general, needs complicated synthetic methods to combine two different moieties, limiting their practical use. Herein, we have developed a simple but powerful approach to synthesize novel graphene quantum dots (GQDs)-based compatibilizers to enhance thermal stability of PSCs. The surface properties of GQDs were modified by direct bonding of small molecules on GQDs using azide chemistry. The modified GQDs could dramatically reduce the interfacial tension between electron donor and acceptor, which was demonstrated by optical microscopy images of active layer of PSCs after thermal treatment. Finally, the bulk-heterojunction organic photovoltaics (BHJ OPVs) containing surface-modified GQDs maintain over 70% of initial power conversion efficiency after 60 h annealing at an elevated temperature of 150°C. |
